Dwight “Ike” Massey February 7, 1949 – January 1, 2023

Dwight “Ike” Massey, 73, of San Diego, CA passed away unexpectedly at home on January 1, 2023. Dwight was born on February 7, 1949 to John & Helen Massey in Elmira, NY. He was the fourth of six children. He attended Southside High School in Elmira and graduated in 1967. After high school he enlisted in the US Air Force and was part of the Security Police Squadron. He was stationed in Omaha, NE before being sent to Southeast Asia in 1969 and 1970. Upon returning to the states he was stationed in Fresno, CA. He met his wife, Carolynn Nakata, in Fresno and they were married December 31, 1971.

Dwight worked a variety of jobs over the years, but his longest career was as a glazier. In his free time he enjoyed a wide variety of hobbies including playing golf, sculpting, wood carving and ceramics. He even had his own kiln at one point. In later years he enjoyed doing some amateur photography around his home in San Diego and spending time on Facebook keeping in touch with old friends and making new ones. Dwight will be remembered for his warm smile and sarcastic humor, his love of hazelnut coffee and his amazing Cinnamon Pie with Apples recipe that he loved to bake.

Dwight was preceded in death by his parents, John & Helen Massey, his brother, Jim Massey and sister, Barbara Massey. He is survived by his brother, John Massey, Jr. of Elmira, NY and sisters Debbie Schillo (Raymond) and children of Keeling, VA, and Penny Henderson (Scott) and children of Elmira, NY. He is also survived by his two children: Aaron Massey (Tracy) of McKinney, TX and Aimee Pereyra (Albert) of San Diego, CA and four grandchildren: Kade Massey of San Diego, CA and Jake, Henry and Myles Massey of McKinney, TX. He was a wonderful father and grandfather and will be greatly missed.

A memorial service is not planned at this time. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Dwight’s memory to Vietnam Veterans of America (www.vva.org/donate)
